Pricing and credits
We decided to avoid a subscription. This solves two problems:
- Lighter users no longer have to subsidize heavy users.
- You don't have to pay when you're not using the app.
To accomplish this we have opted for pricing that is more complex but fairer: you pay only for the work our server does for you. Everything your browser does is free: the engines that play and analyze your games, the board, and hurdle training all run on your own device.
What you are given
Your free credit allocations reduce your costs for playing, analyzing and training: 30 credits when you join, and 5 more on your first visit each day. They do not expire.
Buying more
Credits cost $0.01 each, from 300 credits, which is $3.00. They stay in your account until you use them.
We warn you before you run out, and anything that is refused, due to insufficient credits, says so where you asked for it.
What things cost
| What you do | Credits |
|---|---|
| Saving a game | 5 |
| Opening a saved game | 2 |
| Editing a saved game's details | 1 |
| Saving while entering a game | 1 |
| Analyzing a game, including up to 3 AI Coach comments | 8 |
| Asking Coach, on a hurdle or any position* | 3+ |
| Hurdle operations: listing, adding, deleting, updating | 1 |
For example, a game played and analyzed, with its hurdles and Coach comments, costs 13 credits — $0.13.
* When writing a comment or an answer about a position, Coach studies the board and asks the engine for its three best lines. That first look is included. A mysterious position or a deeply-involved question sends Coach digging: more of the board, more lines, 1 credit per dig. Even the hardest costs at most 10 credits, about 10¢.
